Let me be surrounded by luxury …

I can do without the necessities!” *

Dear gemstone lovers,

it’s worth having a look behind the scenes in the world of luxury. One thing’s for sure: it has many facets. A few weeks ago Professor Ho, who lectures in ‘luxury studies’ at a Chinese university, journeyed to my home town of Idar-Oberstein, bringing a high-carat delegation with her, to learn everything there is to learn about gemstones.

Raw stones, cutting-shop, perfectly cut end product: my company headquarters is the perfect place to take a look behind the scenes in the world of luxury – and that includes the exquisite buffet! The group was particularly taken with the Gem Room, in which I present exclusive customers with a fine selection of particularly rare and valuable gemstones.

On a brief excursion to the historic Weiherschleife I showed the group the origins of the gemstone industry. From the 15th century right on into the 20th, gemstones were processed on big sandstone grinding wheels – using only the force of the water from our very own Idar stream.

A visit to the marketplace in Oberstein, where there are regional delicacies of all kinds, put the finish on our perfect day.

A truly wonderful day. I look forward to a luxurious wiedersehen!

Sparkling greetings

(Re)Visit from Great Britain

Dear gemstone lovers,

I’ve said it often enough: Idar-Oberstein is thought by some to be unspectacular, but anyone who has taken it into his heart is very unlikely ever to let go of it again.

Is it the picturesque landscapes, the delicious wines, or the fact that the most sparkling gemstones worldwide are to be found here? Probably a mixture of all those things. Idar-Oberstein is worth more than just one visit. … Continue reading (Re)Visit from Great Britain

A sparkling gift

Dear gemstone lovers,
I have some high-class holidays behind me, in the truest sense of the word. Having said that, I’m not referring to my own holiday – though that too was very nice. No, I’m talking about the vacation of two American ladies, Marilyn Pape and Shelley Bennett. The two of them paid me a visit in Idar-Oberstein last month. So how did that come about? Well, Marilyn purchased one of the famous ‘fantasy gifts’ for her daughter Shelley from the luxury department store chain Neiman Marcus: a custom locket, set with sparkling gemstones – and a three-day journey to my place in Idar-Oberstein so that she could select the right stones for herself. Exciting days …

Dear gemstone lovers,

days at trade fairs are exciting days, and they are often full of surprises! In June, at the Jewellery & Gem Fair, I had a chance to experience that once again. I wonder if you can guess what it was that made my appearance in Hong Kong so special this time. Apart from the many interesting discussions, it was fascinating to see how little time it took for word of the extraordinary beauty of the coloured gemstones I’d taken with me in my treasure chest to get around: ‘word-of-mouth recommendation’ is certainly the most fitting expression to describe the considerable crush round my stand in the Grand Hall!

BS-TBS presents: Constantin Wild

Dear gemstone lovers,

there’s a chance now to experience a film version of Constantin’s world: on Japanese television!

350px-BS-TBS_logoThe TV station BS-TBS is making a series and looking for ‘elegant jewellery stories’. It goes without saying that the crew were in exactly the right place in my treasure chamber.

It was great working together with Mr Toru Imahashi and Ms Satomi Schmidt

My Japanese guests were thrilled with their little ‘tour de Wild’. We started off in the raw stone basement, where natural treasures are stored. In our in-house cutting-shop, my employees showed the camera crew some genuine German craftsmanship. Continue reading BS-TBS presents: Constantin Wild

Summer Fete 2014

Dear friends and faithful companions,

we should make hay while the sun shines. And on Saturday 12 July, the time had finally come to do so, for I had invited several hundred wonderful people to my big summer fete. And one thing can certainly be said about it: Idar-Oberstein has surely never seen such a grand celebration!

Milan, Chicago, New York, LA, Zurich, Rio, Geneva, Dallas, Kiev, Buenos Aires, Tehran, Bogotá, Dubai, London, Taipei, Tokyo, St. Petersburg or Hong Kong: dear friends, faithful companions and business partners had travelled to Idar-Oberstein from all the corners of this Earth to join me in celebrating life. Indeed, my international guests and I spent the Friday evening getting into the mood.

Visit from Great Britain

gem aDear gemstone lovers,

Hong Kong, Tucson, Basel. I love travelling the world. Yet home is still the best place to be. In my garden, where the cherries are already ripe. And if, in addition to that, I have a few friendly people around me – I’m perfectly happy!

Just recently I had a visit from a group of 17 from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain – or Gem-A – one of the leading providers of jewellery and gem education. The trip was organised by Deborah Mazza, who once lived in Idar-Oberstein herself, and Charles Evans, responsible for infrastructure and IT. After all, Idar-Oberstein has been, and still is, Europe’s top destination for gemstone connoisseurs and enthusiasts.

And when I have guests to look after, I leave nothing to chance …

Let the ‘TOUR DE WILD’ begin
